Divine story
A DIVINE STORY FROM VAIKUNTHA [like >>> www.fb.com/narayanayam]
“Snowy-white lotus blooms drifted atop the gentle blue waters of Vaikuntha, the place of bliss.
Lord Vishnu reclined peacefully on the serpent Shesha with his wife Lakshmi lying at his feet. Lakshmi looked up at her husband and, though a smile adorned her lovely face, he could tell there was a sadness in her heart. "What troubles you my love?" Lord Vishnu asked her.
Lakshmi sighed. "My lord, it saddens me to look upon the state of humanity. Not long ago, men and women achieved truth, love, success and liberation through virtue and wisdom. Songs of joy and thanks would accompany the libations of butter and golden honey that rose up to the heavens. Now, I hear only lamentations of hardship. Humans no longer seek to live by the laws of dharma. They are not motivated by Kama. They do not seek Moksha, and Artha has become tainted with the blood of the innocent."
Lord Vishnu sat up. "Lakshmi, the Kali Yuga has brought the chill of nightfall upon the world of men. Humanity has forgotten its divine nature and seeks fulfillment in material things. All life turns as does the Dharma Wheel itself. Their world was once young and pure. Wisdom and understanding were virtues of the highest value. All things grow old and are corrupted by the forces of nature and eventually all life comes to an end in order to make way for a new existence. This is simply the way of the universe."
"But, my lord, many times you have prevented the devastation of humanity. What is to stop you from doing this again?"
Vishnu chuckled and took his beloved in his arms. "And what would we do? Cleanse the souls of those who seek glory through the destruction of others? Rain fortune upon the man who is content to wallow in loathing and hatred? My love, I fear this would do no good. Many times the gods have descended to the world of men. We have brought peace and we have created conflict. In many forms I have prevented humanity's untimely destruction. As Matsya, the fish, I recovered the stolen Vedas from the demon Hayagriva, and saved humanity in the great flood. If I had not, the world of men could not exist. As Varaha the boar, I defeated Hiranyaksha and rescued Earth from the depths of the dark ocean. As Gautama, I taught many men the way of peace, knowledge and goodness. However, I do not possess the ability to countermand destiny itself, nor would I choose to if I could. For above all, I seek to preserve the principles of dharma."
