Damodar Leela

Hare Krishna.

Dandvat Pranams.

This article is describing most wonderful pastimes of damodar lila which gives us tremendous pleasure to our heart. This is little bit long article but please read which offered wisdom to us through amazing pastime of Lord Krishna.

So we are celebrating the month of Damodara. That is a very special month. In this month we celebrate so many loving pastimes. Krishnas love is simultaneous. He has the love relationship with the Gopis, His most dear. He has the love relationship with the Gopas, His intimate friends. He has the loving relationship with Yashoda, Nanda, with everybody. And it is a very exciting month because Krishna is very sweet and very happy. Actually Kartika means Radharani, it's the month of Radharani. So Krishna is very happy in this month, very enthusiastic. So as you may have heard, Krishna is very fond of butter and yoghurt. As a matter of fact He is also known as Makan-chor, the butter-thief. Of course, really He wants to thief the hearts of the Gopis. But here and there a little yoghurt and butter He also takes along. So Him and His boyfriends when they say: "We go out and play !" it's actually not true. They are going to steal butter and yoghurt in the houses of the Vrajabhasis. And they are very tricky about it. They go and see that the mother, she is taking care of the house, that she will be sidetracked. Maybe they call from somewhere outside so she goes outside, or they do any type of little trick. And then they quickly go inside the house: " Where is the butter ?" Here, they take it and then they have a butter festival. Makan. In some of the temples you will get butter at this time when you go. Butter and Chinni, with some sweet mixed. So Krishna is very fond of having these little festivals. But the Vraja-Gopis they always come home and they cannot find their butter. And sometimes they see the feet of Krishna on the floor with some yoghurt which fell on the ground and so His feet are clearly marked in the yoghurt. And she says: "This was Krishna and His friends !" So they love Krishna so much that they want to see Him also. Actually they are upset: "Why didnt we see Him ?, He came to get our butter, why He didnt come to see us, He could have gotten us ?" So then they say: "Let us go and complain to mother Yashoda about all this thievery, and then we can also see Krishna because He is there".

So they go to Mother Yashoda and they say: "Mother Yashoda, you know one thing, Krishna is always coming to our home and He is taking our butter, and He sometimes brakes our yoghurt-pots. And then, sometimes we hide the yoghurt and the butter in a very dark area. And then He just goes there, and because He has His effulgence He can see the butter anyway. Then we hang it up in the ceiling, then He takes His stick and He knocks on the yoghurt pot and everything drops down and we have a big mass there, and He is simply taking everything. Mother Yashoda, where is Krishna ?" They just want to see Him, they just make the excuse. Then Mother Yashoda says: "Oh, Krishna is so naughty ? He is giving so much trouble ? I think I shall chastise Him." Then they say: "Oh it's not that bad." Then she says: "Maybe I should take away the jewels from His body, so He cannot see. Probably He can see in the dark because of the shining of the jewels." Then they go: "No, it's o.k., we just wanted you to know, what your Krishna is doing." So then later, Krishna does this pastimes also at His own home. Then Mother Yashoda says: "Lala, come here. Are you not getting enough Prasadam at your home ? Why you have to go and steal from the Gopis ? What is this ? You are giving a bad name to Your Mother and Your Father ?", "No, Maiya, I am not, we are just having some fun, we are just playing, we are not stealing anything, they are just making up stories." Like this it is going on. So, one day Yashoda Maiya she is setting Krishna on her lap and she is giving her breast to Him to suck. And Lala (Krishna) is very happy. He loves to be in the arms of Mother Yashoda and to drink Her milk. All of the sudden Mother Yashoda, she thinks: "Oh, I have put the milk on the stove in the kitchen, and it's boiling over." So quickly she takes of Krishna and puts Him there and runs away. And Krishna is very upset. He says: "I was drinking happily and Mother just put me away like I am nothing. Oh, no, now I am going to get something and just gonna eat yoghurt." He goes to the yoghurt pot, and He takes a stone and brakes the yoghurt-pot. it's a big yoghurt pot, and He goes and starts eating and also some butter. And He calls the monkeys: "Come, come, come, very nice butter over here !" Then the monkeys take so much butter so much yoghurt, they cannot eat anymore, they are so full. Then Krishna says: "Oh, this butter seems to be bad, the monkeys don't want anymore" So, mother Yashoda she goes to the kitchen, she takes care of Her milk. And then she goes back, and no Lala. And then she sees the mess. The yoghurt-pot broken, yoghurt all over the floor, butter, and she sees the steps going away, oho. "I will just have to follow these steps and I am gonna get to Him." So when Krishna sees Yashoda coming, upset, she has picked up a little stick, and she says: "Lala, what the Gopis said is all true !, you are naughty !" and she thinks: "If I will not educate my baby then He will become a big thief !, a big problem, I must teach Him a lesson, I cannot tolerate this". So, when Krishna sees Yashoda coming with the stick, He is getting a very afraid face: "Maiya, Maiya, nooo, don't do anything to me !" and He gets up and starts running. Now, He is a small boy, but He can run. And Mother Yashoda she is heavy, and she is trying to get after Him, and after Him and she is sweating and finally she snatched Krishna. And then He goes: "Oh, no please don't chastise me, I will be a good boy" But she says: "No, Lala, you have done very bad things, and now you have to learn a lesson, you don't do such things, braking pots, distributing all the yoghurt, what do you think ?" So she pulls Him along with her to the wooden mortar, where they make the spices, or they churn the butter. it's a big wooden mortar. You can see in some of the houses they still have them in Vraja. They still utilize them. And then she takes a rope, and she binds it around Krishnas waist. Damodara means bound around the waist. Thats the name of Krishna because He was tied. So she binds it and when she just wants to finally close the string, it's missing one inch. Then Yashoda, she goes quickly and gets another string, and she connects the two, and again she tryes to tie, and again one inch is missing. Then she says: "I cannot do anything, this is terrible !" Again she gets another string and ties it together, and again she tries. And Krishna at the same time: "No, no, why are you binding me, Maiya, I will not be bad anymore". But she says: "No, if I am always weak with Him, then He will never learn the lesson, so I have to do it this time." Another inch missing. Finally she brings all the strings from the house and still something is missing. Then she is sweating and trying to be strict, but already long time she is like worried. Then Krishna sees: "Oh, Maiya wants to do this, so I have to allow her. Her love is so big, I have to permit that she binds me." So next string comes, Krishna is bound. By that effort to please Him. Because everything Yashoda does is for her love for Lala. She doesn't have any other thought. So now He is bound and she says: "So now I taught you a lesson Lala, and you don't forget that, will you ? Now I will keep you," the Supreme Personality of Godhead, bound ? By the ropes of affection and love of course. Then she goes into the kitchen to take care of something, and Krishna is bound. Now Krishna is Krishna. So as she walks of, He starts pulling the wooden mortar which is very heavy. And He just keeps pulling it and pulling it, because it's very strong. So the mortar gets tied between two trees. they are called the Yamala-Arjuna trees. And Krishna just goes and pulls the mortar and these two huge twin-Arjuna trees crash to the ground with a tremendous noise. And Yashoda in the kitchen, her heart dropped: "Ahh, whats happening there ?" And she runs out of the kitchen: "Lala, where is my Lala:" There is no Lala and there is no mortar: "Where is He ?!" And then she sees these huge trees lying in the courtyard. And two light figures come out of the trees, Nalakuvera and Manigriva. And there she sees them praying to Lala. And Lala is sitting in the middle like nothing happened. And then she says: "Oh, what is this, am I halucinating ?" And then she runs and says: "Lala, I am so sorry I did this with you, I bind you, and now look this disaster, this is all my fault" And she takes Krishna in her lap and cries and her tears fall on His body and Lala feels: "Oh, now Mama is again happy with me"

So in the month of Kartik we think about this beautiful play the Supreme Lord does with His dear mother Yashoda. She is His most intimate associate as a mother. There are many times when the Lord appears, and He has different mothers when He appears. But Yashoda Maiya, she has the exclusive divine, supreme position. And her love is eternally glorified. So, Lala, He is doing so many things in the month of Kartik. He is so naughty, He is so joyfull, He is always giving pleasure to everyone.

Sometimes when Nanda-baba is sitting in his chair and he wants to get up, then little Lala comes with the chapalas (shoes) of Nanda-baba on His head and He comes and carries them. When father Nanda Maharaja sees his little kid with his chapalas on His head coming, he just floats away in love, he is no more consistency possible when you see such a loving attitude. So Krishna is the pleasure if His devotees. You see ! Krishna does everything for the pleasure of His devotees, and His devotees do everything for the pleasure of Him. So when are we gonna start to do something for the pleasure of Him ? He is always doing for our pleasure. Even if we want some nonsense pleasure, somehow or other He still provides. Somehow or other He still makes everything available, but He is not interested in any mundane thing. He wants your heart, baba ! He doesn't want anything from your material things, from your material talents. it's just, when you have love, you use everything for Krishna. If you play an instrument, you play it for Krishna. If you paint, you paint for Krishna. If you gardening, you gardening for Krishna. Whatevery you do, you compose, you write, you talk, you walk, whatever you do, do it for Krishna if you love Him. So you have to see, Krishna exists out of love for the love to His devotees. And of course they feel like: "How can I learn to love Him ?". So Krishna is captured by love. The infinite Lord, the Supreme merciful Lord, He is captured by the love of His devotees, imagine that my friends. Just imagine that. The love of the devotees is so great that Krishna feels captured by it. When Srimati Radharani is upset with Krishna, Krishna is very worried, He is very concerned with that: "How is it possible, how can I please Radharani again ? How will She forgive me ?" Sometimes He touches Her feet and prays. In Varshana there is one place called Mana Mandir, where Radharani goes when She is really upset. The sweet lila of love, there is a little bit competition for the love of Krishna. So much love the devotees have for Krishna, so much. And then they all want to please Him. Of course the group of Radharani they know: "There is nobody who can please Krishna like Radharani" So they are always making the efforts that She will meet Him. But other Gopis they are also trying to make the arrangement that Krishna may meet Chandravali. And they are also very eager. And Krishna He wants to please both of them. Because He loves everybody, He wants to make every devotee happy. So, then sometimes Radharani gets upset and says: "How is it that I am put here to wait ?"

So, Vrindavan is the land of nectar. The Infinite being conquered by the finite, that is something inconceivable. But in the world of love such things are possible. In the world of love superiour and inferiour cannot sustain it'self. Just like when the child comes to the father and offers obeisances, the father wants to pick up the child and hug it. He says: "What are you doing there !", "Oh, my dear pita, I am giving my respects to you". Love diminishes all hierarchical structures and forms. And love is also moving in a curved way, crooked way. Love does not always follow one straight line. You cannot conceive how it is working, because it is Krishnas own power, Krishnas love personified. And He is a little bit crooked, He has a three bended form. When He plays His flute, you see Krishna has His three bended form, tri bangha lalitam. He is a bit crooked. Thats why He is called Hari. He is called a thief. And She is called Hara because She is such a thief that She can even steal the heart of the Thief of all hearts. Thats pretty heavy. He is Madan-mohan and She is Madan-mohan-mohini. She is the conquerer, she just takes the mind of Sri Hari, who is so clever that even cupid is devastated by Him. Cupid comes to do any of his pastimes, shooting his arrows, but when He sees Krishna, arrows drop, bow drops, cupid falls in love. He is conquered. All his power is finished before Krishna.

So He is the Supreme divine Lord of Love, and Vrindavan is His divine land which is full of love. And Vrinda-devi is incharged of decorating this land. She is incharged of the vines and the creepers and the kadamba-trees and the so many other beautiful arrangements. The bowers, the malika and also the musical arrangements. Wherever Krishna and the Gopis and Radharani meet, it's a concert, they are having a wonderful arrangement there. All the instruments you can think of, and there are the Vinas sounding, and they make such a beautiful sweet sound, just by that sound the heart starts floating. So this is the land of Krishnas love. Just like when you see the Parijata flower, every morning they shower like a snow fall of sweet scented flowers to offer to Krishnas lotus feet. What could be more amazing, what could be more wonderful then this lila of Krishna in the month of Damodara, in the month of Kartika. And we are coming here in this process to absorb our heart in this, to transform our heart, to not think about the bhang, to not think about the car, to not think about my position, my career, to not think about this mundane preoccupation. Of course it is very difficult to give up all mundane worries and preoccupations, but by the grace of the spiritual Master and the Vaishnavas we can always think and hear about the transcendental lila. And that is Hari-katha, it is diversified into so many different pastimes, and all these pastimes are the best medicine for getting out of this material attachment, from these material worries and all that. These pastimes are the topmost medicine for all men, therefore the Supreme Lord says: "mad-citta mad-gata-prana bodhayantah parasparam, kathayantas ca mam nityam tusyanti ca ramanti ca - that my devotees they always talk with each other, illuminating one another talking about my pastimes, my lila and in this way they are very happy".

You see, we are like in the land of sadness, we are in the land of frustration, but when we start talking about Krishna, we become relieved, we become happy. It is the medicine. Sometimes you feel very frustrated about something, but then you think about a brilliant future to come and then you feel very relieved by that. You feel: "Oh, yes, this is so nice". So we are in this material world, we are growing old, we are going to die, the people we love they may not reciprocate to us as we have expected. The children go away, the father thinks: "I was thinking to stay with them all my life". No, modern families practically nobody lives together. And then you are old and think: "Oh, whats left for me ?". Goloka Vrindavan, my friend, thats left for you. You want to establish, you want to get in this material world the perfect situation ? Impossible !, not only impossible but quite a useless attempt, because all the things in this material world they are meant to be insufficient. Krishna has created in such a way. We  can have so many things, we can enjoy so many circumstances but finally He wants us to come to Him. If He is giving us, supplying us something perfectly satisfying in this world, then we will never want to go to Goloka Vrindavan. So by the kindness of the material energy, maya, maha-maya and yoga-maya, everything is arranged in such a way that finally you will want to go home back to gome, back to Godhead. So therefore we have saying "There is nothing bad which doesn't come for a good reason". So if anything bad comes in this life, say: "Thank you !, it s teaching me a lesson, I have to learn so many lessons, because I want to go back to home, back to Godhead. I don't want to stay in this material world, I want to go to Krishna, I want to learn how to love." And Krishna is never happy if you give trouble to anybody. That is the task, thats the tuff part. You cannot go around giving trouble to others. And even if others give trouble to you, reciprocate in a Vaishnava way. Be humble, don't create unnecessary tensions. Jesus Christ said: "They hit you on one cheek, then put the other cheek to be beaten again." Now, we have to qualify that statement a little bit, it means we are not going to be on the level of our ego, we will not create big fuss, we will always say yes. Like one time they were saying some things about Srila Sridhar Maharaja. And one devotee came to him and said: "Guru Maharaja, do you know what they say about you ?" He said: "No, what do they say ?" and then he said something and then  Maharaj said: "Oh, they say that only ? all that is because they don't know how bad I am really". So when you are humble, you defeat all the aggressions in this world. You simply don't take offence. You say: "I am stupid. I must be stupid otherwise how would I come to a world where I meet so many people with this negative, aggressive mood." But when you are in the right mood, in the positive mood everything turns positive. You see, the mood of the Vaishnavas is they always think: "I am bad." and then they become very nice. In the material world the mood is everybody thinks: "I am great." and then all the bad things come to them. So whats more safe ? The safe approach is: "I am useless, I am not qualified, but by causeless grace I am getting the chance to do something anyway." Then you are very happy, you accept every circumstance. Because these circumstances are there to teach you, they are wonderful lessons. If you have any difficulty, you are meeting a person who don't likes you, or something, this is great !, immediately you have a chance to become more humble. You know in the material world when there is one child only and the parents everything the child wants say: "Yes my child, take it, have it, don't cry" Then the child thinks: "If I cry I get everything, and if anybody in this world don't say nice things to me then he must be horrible person". But this is a horrible consciousness. So if we meet people who are not so pleasent, who are not so nice with us, that is a great lesson, but you should not be like that. You should be humble, you should be kind, then you learn the lesson. That is something very wonderful. See Krishna in everyone. See Krishnas lesson coming to you through every moment and every circumstance and never be in despair. Like: "I can't bear it anymore !, I can't bear it anymore, I can't tolerate it anymore." Some people think: "Life is to much, I don't want to live anymore". You know what that means ? That means: "I don't want to learn anymore". You are loosing the greatest of all the great, wonderful things. You could learn, but you don't want to learn. Learning meand learning to love. So I don't want to learn anymore means I don't want to love anymore. it's not good. Love is your eternal goal. It is the property of your heart, but love means to learn to love the others, to accomodate the others. Vaishnavism is the philosophy of proper adjustment. You can adjust everything, every circumstance, because you will always see what is Krishnas message in this for me. And if anybody comes to you as an atagonist: "You are bad, you do bad things. " Then you say: "Maybe I am bad, but I try to learn how to be better. Can you teach me ? You see what I am doing is bad, can you please be so kind and teach me ?". And then if he doesn't say anything which makes sense then you can understand that he is just a faultfinder. But even a faultfinder, why you bother about it ?, just go your own way. But maybe some lesson is coming to you. Like we should not look for all the people who say: "You are great, you are great, you are great." Therefore Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur said: "Those who flatter me are my enemies and those who criticize me they are my real friends." Have you ever thought about that ? Thats a bit extreme, right ? There is one story Srila Guru Maharaja told us in this connection. There was an indian poet, a very young boy, he was so talented. He could write poetry and everybody was impressed. As a matter of fact, the indian government sent him to Italy for a poet program where poets from all over the world meet. And he won a price there, he was recognized as an international poet. And he was just a young boy, not even 20 years old. The only one who criticized him was his father. His father was always saying: "You are useless. you are just puffed up, you will get nowhere and like this he was always smashing him. " So his son was developing a very great anger against the father, because everybody was glorifying him and father was smashing, smashing, smashing. Then he decided: "I will kill my father. " Then one day in the night he took one knife and he went and he was hiding in the closet of the father room. And father and mother they come in the room and they lay down on the bed. And the mother says to the father: "Look at the full moon, it is so beautiful." Then the father says: "If I think of the beautiful face of my son then the moon looks to me like nothing." then the mother said: "Yes, but you are always smashing him, you are always criticizing him", "Oh, yes I do that just that he don't become proud and useless, I just do that to save him". And the son inside the closet: "Ohhh, I was going to kill my wellwisher" He comes out and falls at the feet of his father and he is crying and crying and crying. So we have to be very careful, Krishna loves us, even if he sends some criticism, some difficulty to our life. don't go around the world looking just for: "Who will glorify me, who will give me some honor". Because you have to learn, you have to become purified, you have to develop love for Krishna and thats not a cheap thing. You cannot have love for your false ego simultanuously and love for Krishna. So by the kindness of Sri Krishna, he is making sure we get the message we need to get. And in the month of Damodara we pray to Him: "My lord, make all the arrangements I can get quickly to Your lotus feet, and that I will not get sidetracked to anything nonsense, useless, unnesessary. I don't want to be sidetracked, I want to get to Your lotus feet straight, that is my ambition. And thats why I pray to Your lotus feet and to chant and to sing and to hear and to speak about You and to honor Your prasadam and to serve Your devotees so that they will be very happy and that they will all be enthused to go on in that spiritual path. "

Damodara ki jay ! Sri Sri Radha-Damodara ki jay ! Sri Sri Radha-Damodara parikrama ki jay ! Radha-kunda appearance day ki jay ! Govardhan parikrama ki jay ! Vaishnavas ki jay !! All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga ! All glories to Srila Prabhupada !

Goverdhan Pooja another Katha

Don’t Be Ritualistic :So what makes it such an important event that we are here today to celebrate? The story is given by Srila Sukhadeva Goswami in the tenth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. There it is described that the Govardhan puja has many very very deep meanings. When Krishns performs a pastime, He has so many lessons for everyone to learn.

It is described that after Krishna showed His mercy to the wives of the Brahmans, the yagnic Brahmans, in Vrindavan, He saw Nanda Maharaj and the other cowherd men arranging beautiful preparations for a big big yagya. So Lord Shri Krishna asked, ‘What is this that you are doing?’ to Nanda Maharaj. He said, ‘What is this ritual? Who is it for? And what will you accomplish by performing it?’ This is very important, the first line of the story. Krishna disapproves of performing any ritual without a deep understanding of what you are doing and why. Krishna wanted to tell us all that if you are performing some ritual, if you are performing some religious yagya, you must know what it is for, you must know who it is for, you must know how to perform it and you must also know what is it that you are going to accomplish through it. Lessons To Be Learnt :o  Understand Fully Before Doing.o  Practice What You Preach.

How many people today perform their puja simply to carry on their family traditions? Or perform a puja because they are superstitious. They are afraid that something may happen if they do not do it. Krishna was asking Nanda Maharaj, why? For who? And what are you doing? And then because Nanda Maharaj was quite quiet, Krishna explained that do you know that if people perform this yagya with ignorance, without understanding these things, then you will get no good result. If you perform it with knowledge, then you will get the result. So I want to know, what is this? And, you should tell me because I am intimate family member. And amongst those who are highly qualified in religious life, they have no secrets from their friends and family members. In fact, such person should have no secrets from anyone. Their lives should be like an open book. Here Krishna is instructing another great lesson, that we should practice what we preach. We should not have two lives. We should not have a private life and a public life. What we say, we should establish by our actions. Acarya means one who teaches the truth according to the scriptures, and one who lives according to that truth. Such a person has no secrets, nothing to hide in his life. Nanda Maharaj’s Explanation :So Nanda Maharaj, he began to speak, he said, ‘My dear Krishna, we are performing the Indra yagya. Because, you see we are cowherd community, we grow grains, we take care of cows, we are completely dependent on rain. If it does not rain, we will have no success in our life. And Indra is the devata, the demigod, who bestows when he is pleased, rain upon the earth. So this yagya is meant to please Indra, so that he will provide plentiful rains. And, then we will live a nice life in prosperity, and the cows will be happy.’ Krsna’s Reason For Govardhan Puja :1.  Karma Mimamsa :When Krishna heard this, he was looking at Nanda Maharaj like is that the reason? I think, as far as I am concerned, Indra really doesn’t have anything to do with it. Because, according to the laws of karma, if you act good, you will get good results. And if you act bad, you will get bad results. And Indra is simply the deliverer of your karma. So if you are performing good works, Indra has to give rains. And if you are sinful, Indra has to hold it back. It is something like in the government you have telephone, you have electricity, you have water. If you pay your bill, then you get the water, you get the electricity. If you don’t pay your bill, it gets turned off. You don’t have to flatter the minister of water, or the minister in charge of electricity. Go and say you are very great man, you are very wonderful. If you pay, they give it to you.So Krishna was explaining if you just do good works, why do you have to waste all this time trying to satisfy Indra? It’s like flattering. You are pious man, he has to give rain. And then he explained that karma-mimansa philosophy. 2.  Surrender To Me :Krishna wanted to establish, to His devotees that it is an offence to Him, in His presence to worship the demigods. That here He was personally living in Vrindavan, the Supreme God of all gods, Parameshwara, and they are worshipping Indra for rains. Krishna explains in the Gita, that the demigods, whatever they have they are getting from Me. And if you worship Me, you have no other obligations to anyone.

devarñi-bhütäpta-nåëäà pitèëäàna kiìkaro näyam åëé ca räjansarvätmanä yaù çaraëaà çaraëyaàgato mukundaà parihåtya kartam[SB 11.5.41]

That all one’s obligations to one’s forefathers, to the government, to the demigods, to one’s teachers – we have obligations to all of them. They are all automatically fulfilled when we surrender to Krishna, because He is the source of everything. When you water the root of the tree, automatically every part of the tree is nourished. When you surrender to Krishna, when you please Krishna, the whole universe and all living beings within the universe are fully nourished. You have no other obligation. So Krishna wanted to show that if you are not My devotee, then it is your duty to worship the demigods because they are giving you so many benefits and gifts and you are ungracious if you do not, but if you are My devotee then all that is taken care off. sarva-dharmän parityajyamäm ekaà çaraëaà vrajaahaà tväà sarva-päpebhyomokñayiñyämi mä çucaù[BG 18.66]Krishna says abandon all varieties of religion, just surrender to Me. I shall relieve you of all sinful reactions, do not fear. So, Krishna very very cleverly wanted to dissuade from Indra puja, but there was another reason. 3.  Krsna’s Mercy Is In Curbing Pride :Because, Krishna knew that Indra was very proud. You see, when Krishna appeared on earth, not everyone understood that He was God. ye yathä mäà prapadyante, täàs tathaiva bhajämy aham [BG 4.11]. Only those who had hearts full of true devotion understood that He was God. Others considered that He was just a very great powerful mystic, but He was a human being or some thought of demigod, but they didn’t understand He was God. And even amongst the demigods in heavens, many of them did not understand that this Krishna was the original Avatari. So Krishna knew, that Indra is very proud. Why? Because he was in such a position of control and in this world, it is very very difficult to have a high position, wealth, beautiful looks, power or authority over others and not become condemned by false pride. It is almost impossible. Unless one really and seriously takes shelter of the lotus feet of the sadhus, it’s not possible.

So, Krishna knew that Indra, although he was His devotee, he was intoxicated by his high position in the world. And because Indra was His devotee, Krishna was so merciful – He wanted to curb this pride. He wanted to purify his life.

So Krishna simultaneously wanted to give pleasure to the Vrijwasis, He wanted to establish to His devotees there is no need to worship anyone but Me, and He wanted to curb the pride of Indra. So he began to speak in such a way to convince Nanda Maharaj to stop this Indra puja. 4.  Athiestic Philosophies :He said, ‘Nanda Maharaj, work is worship. You just do your work you gonna get the results. Whether there is a God or is not a God, it doesn’t really matter, because God is subservient to your karma.’ Krishna was preaching atheistic philosophy. In fact, where do you think the atheists get all their arguments from? You think they have the brain substance to think of it themselves. They get it from Krishna. If you don’t want to surrender to God, if you don’t want to believe in God, if you want to be your own God, then Krishna is within your heart, sarvasya cähaà hådi sanniviñöo, mattaù småtir jïänam apohanaà ca [BG 15.15] he gives you just the proper philosophy of atheism to justify your position. And just to prove that Krishna was teaching atheism, that – “may be there is a God, may be there is not a God, but what difference does it make? If you do your work properly, the results have to come. So what is this? Wasting your time trying to satisfy this Indra”. And then he explained that according to the varnasrama system, if you just act according to your natural propensity, as a Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra, then all the needs of your life will be fulfilled. So just perform your duty, you are cowherd man. 5.  Practical Situation :And after all, where are you getting all of your gifts from? From Govardhan hill, from the cows and from the Brahmans. Govardhan hill is supplying grass, the cows eat the grass, give milk and by the blessings of the Brahmans, they give us Vedic knowledge, so therefore you should take all of these beautiful articles of paraphernalia for worship and worship the Brahmans, the cows and Govardhan hill. Brajwasis  – They Just Love Krsna :So, because Nanda Maharaj and all the elder cowherd men they loved Krishna so much, that they had to do whatever Krishna wanted. They knew that Krishna was simply jokingly preaching these very very bogus philosophies – for the less intelligent people. But they didn’t care what the philosophy was. They just wanted to please Krishna. And therefore they said, ‘Yes Krishna, teach us how to do it.’ Cook mountains of prasad. Make payasam, and make puris, and make halwa and rasagullas and gulab jamuns and laddoos and chapatis and rice and subjis and dahls and make all sorts of nice cakes – fried cakes, and cakes soaked in various milk preparations, and then all the stock of all your milk and all your grains, make wonderful big offerings for the pleasure of the Brahmans, the cows and Govardhan hill. And then after that let every one in Vrindavan decorate themselves with the nicest jewellery, with the nicest clothes and then let us take the bullock carts with all the cows in front of us and let us circumambulate Govardhan hill. Krsna Is Giriraj :So, they performed this wonderful ceremony. And how wonderful, as they were circumambulating Govardhan hill, mountains and mountains of bhoga, wonderful foodstuffs they were all chanting the glories of Krishna and Balarama. And after the ceremony was over, every one was so happy, so joyful and Krishna said, ‘Now, with this prasad, make sure afterword that we must offer it very humbly to Govardhan’. So as they were offering it, right before their eyes, the Govardhan hill assumed a personal form, and this personal form grew so big and it was non-different than Krishna Himself that assumed this form within the hill. And then Govardhan hill began to speak that I am Govardhan, I am the Supreme. I have come to accept all of your offerings. And then right before their eyes, the Govardhan hill, with great pleasure ate all of the offerings. And upon seeing this, while Krishna was incarnated as Govardhan hill, He was at the same time the seven year old little cowherd boy along with the Vrijwasis. And in order to teach all the Vrijwasis and in order to teach all of us for all life to come, the importance of this great avatar, Krishna Himself bowed down and offered His obeisances to Giriraj. And all of the Vrijwasis followed and did the same. And after Giriraj partook of all the offering, before every one’s eyes, again he gave it all back. Then Krishna explained; now we must distribute it to the Brahmans and then we must distribute it to all other classes of men. We must specially sumptuously feed those who are very poor and we must sumptuously feed the dogs, the cats, the cows, everyone. Let everyone enjoy the wonderful mahaprasad of Shri Giriraj. And after this wonderful wonderful feast took place everyone was so happy – they all dancing in transcendental ecstasy remembering Krishna in the heart of their hearts returned to their homes.Wish you all very Happy Krishna conscious Padva and new year ahead. May you have blissful journey on spiritual path in upcoming years.Thank you very much.      Your servant,             Renuka

"In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy the only means of deliverance is chanting the holy name of the Lord.
There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way."

trnad api sunicena taror api sahisnuna
amanina manadena kirtaniya sada hari

"One can chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking himself lower than the straw in the street.
One should be more tolerant than the tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige and ready to offer all respects to others.
In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly."

Caitanya Mahaprabhu explains-
As He was walking through the Jharikhanda forest how walking, dancing He was gracefully going through the forest path with His arms raised chanting the Holy Names –

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare!!!!

That time there was tigers that began to follow behind Him. And then deer began to follow behind them.
You know in the forest the worst enemies are tigers and deer’s. When a tiger sees a deer he only has one thing in the mind to weak beat apart with his sharp claws, to bite his neck with the sharp teeth and to drink every drop of his blood and to eat every sliver of his flesh and to leave only behind his bones and then to add insult to injury he sucks the bones. Anyways the world’s possible enemies they were walking side by side in complete spiritual trans as they were seen the beautiful golden form of  Lord Caitanya. And Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu looked at them and He raised His arms and He said chant the Holy Names –

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare!!!!

And the deer’s and the tigers began to have wonderful kirtan together. and the trees ,flowers and grass they were all enraptured in ecstatic devotion and as He was chanting, although they couldn’t chant themselves, they help to create the ego of His chanting- I have seen with my own experience sometimes people’s who are competitors and enemies during the kirtan they become loving friends dancing and chanting together. But then when the kirtan ends gradually they become an enemy again that’s why Mahaprabhu said- kirtaniya sada hari. We should always do kirtan then there is no question of enemies. We forget everything except Krsna. These tigers and deer’s they began with great love and spiritual emotion to chant the Holy Names.

So Srila Prabhupada would tell us that we can’t imitate the supreme merciful incarnation of Godhead Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu who could instantly give Prema Bhakti the perfection of life to everyone and anyone. But as the servant of the servant of the servant of Lord Gauranga, Lord Krsna we can honestly endeavor to give this gift of Harinam to other living beings and i.e. the great value of our life to give this gift. There is nothing that will make us more dear to Krsna than helping the great souls in spreading this glorious Sankirtan movement. It is so simple.

To serve God and the world for our whole life we will require spiritual strength and nourishment. The source for this is the Holy Names
In the Judaeo-Christian tradition also there is a great instruction: “Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name.” Not only is this encouragement for chanting God’s name, but the word means “sacred.” We say that the name of God is sacred. But originally the word hallowed meant “whole.” The name of God was considered complete. So “hallowed be Thy name” meant that God’s name was complete in itself, or full of God’s own potency, as what Vedic tradition says.
All religious traditions teach this principle and encourage adherents to chant God’s names, even if, in practice, the instruction is hardly followed. In fact, all religions emphasize the chanting process as the prime means for developing God consciousness. For example, King David, of the Bible, preached: “From the rising of the sun until its setting, the Lord’s name is to be praised.” Saint Paul said, “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  In this way, the potency of the name is endorsed even in the Western religious traditions.
When we chant the holy names of the Lord together, we unify with one another, we unify our consciousness, our minds, and our hearts in the oneness of our love for God. It is a beautiful experience.

The Hare Krishna Mantra - Maha-mantra

The Hare Krishna Mantra -  Maha-mantra
The Hare Krishna mantra is called the Maha-Mantra. It comprises of the Sanskrit names of God:Hare Krishna Hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

The process of bhakti-yoga or devotional service involves chanting of this mantra incessantly.

The maha-mantra is composed of three names of the Supreme person. These three words, namely Hare, Krishna, and Rama, are the transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra.

The chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His energy, to give protection to the conditioned soul. This chanting is exactly like the genuine cry of a child for its mother's presence. Mother Hara helps the devotee achieve the Lord Father's grace, and the Lord reveals Himself to the devotee who chants this mantra sincerely.

The transcendental vibration established by the chanting of hare krishna, hare krishna, krishna krishna, hare hare / hare rama, hare rama, rama rama, hare hare is the sublime method for reviving our transcendental consciousness.

As living spiritual souls, we are all originally Krishna conscious entities, but due to our association with matter from time immemorial, our consciousness is now adulterated by the material atmosphere. This contamination can be removed only by chanting the holy names of God.

he meaning of Hare Krishna Mantra This mantra is made up of only three words : 'Hare', Krishna and 'Rama'. 'Krishna' and 'Rama' are the name of Lord Vishnu - one of the mythological God in the trinity of Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. It is said that in every yug (era) Vishnu takes incarnation on earth to establish the law of truth and righteousness.

Ram is the name of the incarnation of Vishnu in the Treta yug ( you must have heard the famous story of Ramayana - the popular Indian epic. Rama is the hero of that epic. You can learn more about Ramayana here.

Krishna is the name of the incarnation of Vishnu in the 'Dwaper yug'. He is the central character in the Mahabharata (pronounced approximately as Ma-haa-BHAAR-a-ta ) -the another popular epic of India (which incidentally is the longest epic of the world). Krishna is the most popular God of Hindu religion. The Bhagawad Gita - the highly spiritual and mesmerizing conversation between Krishna and Arjuna( one of the bravest and famous character of Mahabharata ) on  the battle ground of Kurukshetra is one of the most popular and respected religious books of World.

Both these words  'Rama' and 'Krishna' have become powerful and effective for the simple reason that for thousand of years  millions of Hindus have been praying to God by chanting these two names. The faith, devotion and a pure spiritual  feeling with which these two names have been chanted by all these devotees for so many years have made these words electrifying- charged with energy. Just repeating these names can take anyone into meditation quickly. The word Hare has come from 'Haran' which means  to take way or to endSo when one sayshare Krishna, he  requests  the God (the supreme consciousness)  to take away his sorrows , his shortcomings, his failures and  pains. This Hare Krishna Mantra is actually a little prayer to God for taking away all the sorrows, pains and shortcomings of the chanter and provide him  bliss and joy.        "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare           Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare"Whenever you chant this mantra, always keep its meaning in  mind. Chant this mantra with devotion and faith . While repeating his mantra request the God almighty to take away all your sorrows, pains and failures and give you joy and bliss.

It is the experience of many that when one repeat this mantra with full faith and with full awareness of its meaning, his/her whole being gets filled with Krishna Consciousness  ( which is a name given to the feeling of bliss and joy one gets in repeating this mantra.) This mantra is a very easy mantra. You can chant it anytime, anywhere. Give at least 15 minutes per day for this mantra repetition. Sit quietly in a comfortable position. Then either chant it silently or loudly. Repeat it with full awareness of its meaning which is " O lord, take away all my sorrows, pains and shortcomings and give me bliss and joy". This mantra is a simple and effective meditation technique. Slowly you will start enjoying it as its repetition will give you a sense of calm and bliss.

No other means of spiritual realization is as effective in this age of quarrel and hypocrisy as the chanting of the maha-mantra.

How should one chant the maha-mantra?Since the ultimate goal of chanting is the development of love, it must be carried out with an attitude of humility and devotion. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu , the great teacher of bhakti-yoga who appeared in India in the fifteenth century describes this attitude as follows," One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street;one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly."Scriptural evidence for Maha-mantraThe maha-mantra is glorified in various scriptures and is mentioned as the only means of deliverance in this age of Kali:Srimad Bhagavatam, the cream of the Puranas, advises,

" Living beings who are entangled in the complicated meshes of birth and death can be freed immediately by even unconciously chanting the holy name of Krishna."In the Vishnu-dharma it is said," This word Krishna is so auspicious that anyone who chants this holy name immediately gets rid of the resultant actions of sinful activities from many, many births."The Upanisads on the Hare Krsna Maha-mantra:(Kali-santarara Upanisad)
hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

krsna hare hare, hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare destroy all the
inauspiciousness of the age of Kali. This is the conclusion of all the Vedas."The Puranas on the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra:
(Agni-Purana)
hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare

"Hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare: Whoever chants this mantra, even neglectfully, will attain the supreme goal of life. Of this there is no doubt.

Gita chapter 16 verse 7

Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 16, Verse 7
pravṛittim—proper actions; cha—and; nivṛittim—improper actions; cha—and; janāḥ—persons; na—not; viduḥ—comprehend; āsurāḥ—those possessing demoniac nature; na—neither; śhaucham—purity; na—nor; api—even; cha—and; āchāraḥ—conduct; na—nor; satyam—truthfulness; teṣhu—in them; vidyate—exist

Meaning
People of demoniacal nature do not know what to do (Pravṛtti) and what to refrain from (Nivṛtti). They have neither outer purity, nor good conduct and nor do they follow the truth.

Commentary
Dharma consists of codes of conduct that are conducive to one’s purification and the general welfare of all living beings.

Adharma consists of prohibited actions that lead to degradation and cause harm to society.

The demoniac nature is devoid of faith in the knowledge and wisdom of the scriptures. Hence, those under its sway are confused about what is right and wrong action.

A typical example of this is the present trend in western philosophy. Having evolved through various schools of thought after the Renaissance, such as Age of Enlightenment, Humanism, Empiricism, Communism, Existentialism, and Skepticism, the present era in western philosophy is labeled as "Post-modernism." The prevalent view of Post-modernist thought is that there is no absolute truth. Multitudes have rejected the possibility that such a thing as absolute truth could exist. "All is relative" has become the slogan of the post-modernist era of philosophy. We often hear phrases like "that may be true for you, but it’s not true for me." Truth is seen as a personal preference or perception that cannot extend beyond a person’s individual boundaries. This viewpoint has a big bearing on the subject of ethics, which deals with the question of right and wrong behavior. If there is no such thing as absolute truth, then there is no ultimate moral rightness or wrongness about anything. Then, people are justified in saying, "It may be right for you but that does not mean it is right for me."
Such an idea is very appealing to many, but if taken to its logical extreme it proves absurd and disastrous. For example, what if it is right for someone to ignore traffic lights, even when they are red? That person will put the life of others at risk by doing what he believes is right. What if it is considered right by someone to go on a suicide-bombing mission in a heavily populated civilian area amongst people he sees as enemies? He may be fully convinced that what he is doing is correct. But does that make it right in any sense of the word? If there is no such thing as absolute truth, then no-one can really say "he should do that" or "she shouldn’t do that." All one can say is, "A lot of people do not feel good about this action." According to the relativist viewpoint, one might respond, "That may be true for you, but it is certainly not true for us." These can be the ruinous ethical consequences of disregarding the belief of an absolute truth.
Shree Krishna states that the demoniac nature is confused about what is right and what is wrong, and thus, neither purity, nor truth, nor right conduct is found in them. In the following verse, he goes on to describe the predominant views of such people.

Comment:
The men endowed with demoniacal nature think only for their own comfort and pleasure, they see their own self-interest. They are inclined to perform only those activities which provide them comfort and happiness and they do not engage in any activity which may give them pain, and which does not serve their self-interest. In fact the scripture is the only authority in determining what ought to be done and what ought not to be done (Gītā 16/24); but because of deep attachment with their bodies and life-breaths, the men of demoniacal nature do not follow the injunctions of the scriptures in determining what should be done and what should not to be done. Because of their demoniacal nature they do not even listen to the command of the scripture and even if they listen to it, they cannot understand it. If sometimes they happen to listen to the words of scripture from saints, they do not accept.

What does "Ananya" really mean ?  What does it mean when one says EXCLUSIVE DEVOTION ?   I have difficulty understanding  "I am only God's and only God is mine."  In Gita 7-19 Lord Krishna says "Vasudeva Sarvam",  so with that bhava or feeling, how is one to truly comprehend exclusivity ?  How does a devotee with exclusive devotion, behave in this world?      Briefly please -

Hari Om

Actually, God said : Aham tvaam sarva papebhyo ...( I will free you from all your sins) merely because Arjuna had that 'desire' to get rid of sins. However, sadhaks should not surrender with a desire ...say to get rid of sorrows. Sharanagati , of course, takes away sorrows from your life ( by destruction of sins) but it is a much more powerful path than to get you mere 'cessation of sorrows' !! It CAN get you PARAM PREM ( ever increasing Love) of Prabhu...provided you don't surrender with any desires. It is a law: If you want 'something' , you will get 'some' thing (limited) only BUT If you don't want anything, you will get everything ( unlimited) !! Surrender has power to make Paramatma dance to your tunes, become indebted to you.

In Sharanagati ...you should NEVER renounce your DUTY ...Sarva dharmaan parityajya ..does not mean that ! You should renounce 'shelter' of duty. While you should keep doing your duty, the shelter should be exclusively of Paramatma !!!

The ultimate goal of a sadhak should be ' Bhagvadashrya' ( Shelter of God) and 'Vishraam' ( taking rest) ... Sharangati gets you both.

Why does 'Ma Suchah' ( do not worry) though very simple, become a really very tough and challenging task for a sadhak ? It is because we continue our habit of taking shelter of our karma, duties, mind, intellect etc. A Sharanagat sadhak therefore must be careful in this regard. He should take shelter of Prabhu and Prabhu only ... Not of his own ability, power, mind, intellect at all. The more weak you become, more effective will become your sharanagati. Hence, God MAY also first put you in situation where you are totally helpless...( So that you are forced to take exclusive shelter of Him) and then make you blissful ..! An old habit of His . Hence do not give Him an opportunity to first make you totally helpless....become yourself so in advance with a smile ... Take NO SHELTER at all of your own ability, power, mind , intellect etc..! Leave to God !

Dear Gita-Member Pawan Kumar,

You can find "Exclusive Refuge in God" if you can donate/surrender
all of your thoughts and imagination to God. Any activity such as bhagans
and or dancing will not work (right now) because your mind/thoughts will always
run-away and you can not "control" them. Once your mind/thoughts
are gone somewhere else, then it does not matter if you do bhajans or you
dance.

The first order of things is to "transform your thoughts from physical-thoughts
to non-physical-thoughts'. In this direction you will find the second and third
steps.

Once you have "transform your thoughts" then the "baseline" of your
thinking will become "non-physical-thoughts (higher power, source, God)".
Then your mind/thoughts will not "run-away" anywhere.

With due regards and best of luck!

Hari Om

First Step is 'Acceptance' ....Accept with a simple heart ( Just As you accepted
'I am Brahmin' or 'I am married' or ' I am son of Mr....' )

I am God 's , Only God is mine, Nothing else is mine.

And then 'surrender' all your actions/deeds...your mind...everything to Him.
Surrender Karmas ...surrender results...surrender everything.

Keep doing your duty as always BUT

1 DO NOT worry ..Become NISCHINTA

2 DO NOT grieve ... Become NISSHOKA

3 DO NOT fear ... Become NIRBHAY

4 DO NOT doubt like whether I have actually surrendered or not , whether God has
taken me into His shelter etc...Become NISSANDEH / NISSHANK

5 DO NOT set any yardsticks

Simply leave every result to God.

GIVE full freedom ( KHULLI CHHUTI) to world , to fate and to God....Let whatever
is to happen ...happen. Give Khulli chhutti ... Simply let the results flow.
Focus on what you CAN do and what you SHOULD do. No focus on results at all.
Look at God...believe firmly whatever will happen will be auspicious and will be
WILL of God !!!

You keep doing your DUTY with complete care and stop worrying/grieving/doubting
and become fearless.

NEVER NEVER NEVER WORRY ...If you worry, where have you surrendered ? If you
have surrendered , where is the question of worry ?

MA SUCHAH .... MA SUCHAH !!!
TULSI SITA RAM KAHO, DRIDH RAKHO VISVAASH ! KABHU NA BIGREE NA SUNI RAMCHANDRA
KE DAAS !!

Says Tulsi : (O Jeeva) Say 'Sita Raam' ( Keep saying ...Sita Raam... Sita Raam
...Sita Raam) and keep believing in Him solidly (Have solid faith ... NO DOUBT
PLEASE... Become NISSHANK !!).

Says Tulsi : I have never heard an incidence ( a news) that something wrong ever
( ever ..ever) happened to a 'daas' ( surrendered Jeeva) of Ramchandra ( Jeeva)
!!!

What a beautiful statement !! How Divine !! Said Lord Krishna in 9:31... Na me
Bhaktah Pranasyati ..Never My devotee ( surrendered) falls ...

Never Doubt ...Never Worry...Never Grieve...Be fearless ..!! Once surrendered
...where is scope for fear/sorrow/worry/doubt ? Be MAST... Give KHULLI CHHUTTI
to ALL. Enjoy ...!! Be MAST ... Be MAST ...!!

ANDHADHUND SARKAAR HAI, TULSI BHAJO 'NISSHANK' ! KHEEJE DET HAI PARAM PAD,
REEJHE DET HAI LANK !!

Steps to realize … flights to Refuge …

Once raises a debate of who is capable of realization and what is required to
realize between the brothers Kaartikeya and Vinaayaka. They both asked their
parents, Shiva and Paarvati. They were told, "one who understand the whole world
completely would". Kaartikeya with full confidence jumps onto his colorful
carrier and flies off to circle around the world so as to understand. Vinaayaka
sits quetly at the feet of his parents as he were. When the younger brother
returns back triumphantly, Shiva gives the verdict to his surprise ... The elder
brother does really realize.

One who looks for steps for realization will spend the whole life looking for
one. One who just stays … taking no stairs to anywhere … taking no flights to
anywhere … depending on nothing to be … is surely REALIZED. When THAT is
everywhere, the very notion of going somewhere as if to find IT defeats the very
fundamental appreciation of Vaasudevah Sarvam. Therefore ... just be ... YOU ARE
THAT! Do anything else ... you will remain what you think you are and what you
act you are. Since both the thoughts as well as actions do remain bound to a
specificity ... one can NEVER attain THE REALIZATION by riding over them. They
can carry you wherever they go ... but, they will retain you bound within their
own coccon of specificity as such.

Therefore ... just be ... YOU ARE THAT!

Respects.

Naga Narayana.

----------------------------------------------------------

The question is not very clear. My interpretation is that the question is:
if one wants to realize God what are the first three steps to taking refuge
in God.
There are no standard sequence of steps to God realization unless one
perceives that the path to the realization of God is one of going up the
stair case or walking down the path. SriRamakrishna said that there are as
many paths as there are opinions. Diifferent Grus can tell the path they
best know and the sequence of steps along the path they individually have
some experience with. So, there are no standard answers.
But if one has no Guru to help or guide, one would be better placed to
define the path towards God Realization as one of sailing into the Ocean
waters to reach God whose residence in not known. For this there is lot of
preparation before one decides to get sailing in to uncharterd voyage in the
ocean. One has to confident that one has the determination to seek God and
the faith that God will only help one to reach HIM. Without this
determination and faith being very strong, no one can can travel more than a
few steps and complete the journey to God. If the determination is strong,
one will never give up the pursuit of God. If one has the strong faith, one
will all the moment pray to God: " My dear friend God, please hold my hand
and take me along the path to you because I do not know the path" (this is
from a Bengali Song).
Then you would start feeling that God is indeed there and holding your hand,
directing you along the way. The more you see everything happening in you
and with you as God's handholding of your prgress towards Him, the more you
are submittinng yourself to God only and nothing else. The more you submit,
the greater is the the strength of handholding by God. The more you feel
confident that it is GHod who is guiding you and attracting you towards Him.
The more you see everything around you as nothing but God. Rather you stop
seeing anything in this World as different fromYou and God.
The first, second, thord and n-th steps are nothing but one and only the
same thing determination and faith to have the above experience, praying to
God, with earnesty incessantly all the time, to hold you hand that you
develop a blind faith that God is indeed holding your hand incessantly. "
God you do not have to give me happiness, please just keep me in your lap.
Let the earth beneath my feet vanish, you please, you please hold my hands
firmly and swing me with the strength of Your hands. I am in complete refuge
in You." (from a song composed by Rabindranath Tagore.

First step is to know (not believe) God did the best for myself.
Second step is to know (not believe) God is doing the best for myself.
Third step is to know (not believe) God will invariably be doing the best for
myself.
This is 'surrender' as per Gita verse 66 chapter 18.
Humbly,
Sadhak.

-------------------------------------------------------

Dear Ones, Namaste!
In addition to many good postings as suggested by our moderators, I would add
the following:
It is important to remind us that God Realization means to be living a
harmonious life while being anchored in Peace in the midst of life's apparent
problems, and serving humanity.
The first step (and perhaps the 2nd, 3rd and last step also) is to find out what
is the reality of myself, or what am I really.
Am I this body-mind and its abilities or lack thereof, which I have taken to be
"me" versus "others" all my life?
Upon finding or rather realizing the truth of "myself", Life takes over and is
being lived through that body-mind organism free of individuality, and
therefore, free of attachments, and therefore, free of any suffering.
One may realize that only an individual suffers and, an individual am I NOT.
This is God realization.
We cannot go into steps of such an inquiry due to the length involved, but this
may give an approach and where we should focus when we say "God Realization".

Dear sadhaks,I humbly submit my views.
First step is Shravan yog.One must exercise concentration in listening to what
is being sermoned about .Second yog is comprehension in tru perpective.Third
step is Karma yog.We should exercise our conduct in alignment to righteous
comprehension.Fourth, not the last step, is meditation.
If all our steps are genuine, realisation will come as a blessing.

Dear Sadhakas,
Hare Krishna.
This is in response to a question from a Sadhaka regarding taking Refuge in the
Lord.
Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita,
" Sarva dharman parityajya,
Mam ekam saranam vraja,
Aham tva sarva papebhyo,
Mokshayisyami ma sucah. "
( Gitaji, 18, 66)
Which means,
'Abandon all varieties of dharmas, just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you
from all sinful reactions. Do not fear. '

How do we get to the faith of complete surrender to the Lord. One best way is
through devotional service.
Lord Krishna says in Gitaji,
" Yajnanam japa yajnosmi"
(Gitaji 10,25)
Which means,
'Of sacrifices , I am the chanting of the HolyNames.'

Chanting of the Mahamantra is a very practical way devotional service that aids
us in the process of total surrender to the Lord.
Let us chant,
"Hare Rama Hare Rama,
Rama Rama Hare Hare,
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna,
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare. " And advance spiritually.

Thank You.

Right life, that is a comprehensively applied set of psycho-physical disciplines
which re-pattern the various structures of the body-mind-complex to conform to
the structural laws of existence-being, and radical devotion in response to the
Grace of the Spiritual Master. The Spiritual master being the only source and
means of God-Realization.

You can find "Exclusive Refuge in God" if you can donate/surrender all of your thoughts and imagination to God. Any activity such as bhagans and or dancing will not work (right now) because your mind/thoughts will always run-away and you can not "control" them. Once your mind/thoughts are gone somewhere else, then it does not matter if you do bhajans or you dance. The first order of things is to "transform your thoughts from physical-thoughts to non-physical-thoughts'. In this direction you will find the second and third steps. Once you have "transform your thoughts" then the "baseline" of your thinking will become "non-physical-thoughts (higher power, source, God)". Then your mind/thoughts will not "run-away" anywhere. With due regards and best of luck!

DESIRE FOR NAME AND Fame

Gowri Kripa "DESIRE FOR NAME AND FAME". One can renounce wife, son, property and all else, but it is very difficult and rare to renounce name and fame. Pratishta is established name and fame. This is a great obstacle in God-Realization. This brings downfall in the end. This does not allow the aspirant to march forward in the spiritual path. He becomes a slave of respect and honour. As soon as he gets some purity and ethical progress, ignorant people rock to him and begin to pay homage and salutation. He gets puffed up with pride. He thinks he is a great Mahatma. He becomes eventually a slave of his admirers. He cannot notice his slow downfall. The moment he mixes up freely with householders. He loses what little he had gained during the eight or ten years of his intense Sadhana. He cannot influence the public now. His admirers also leave him because they do not find any real solace or spiritual influence in his company. People imagine that the Mahatma has got Siddhis and that they can get children through his grace, plenty of wealth and Himalayan herbs for the rooting out of diseases and the building up of radiant and healthy bodies. They always approach a Sadhu with some selfish, ulterior motive or other. The aspirant through bad association loses his Vairagya and Viveka. Attachment and desire crop up in his mind. Therefore you should hide yourself always. Nobody should know what sort of Sadhana you are doing. You should never attempt to exhibit your psychic powers of Siddhis. You should be very humble. You should pass for quite an ordinary man. You should not accept rich presents from householders. You will be affected by the bad thoughts of those who offer presents. You should never think that you are superior to this man or that man. You should not treat others with contempt. You should always treat others with great respect and profound consideration. Then only respect will come by itself. You should treat respect, honour, name and fame as dung and poison and wear disrespect and dishonour as gold necklace. Then only you will reach the goal in safety.(swamy sivananda).
